You can’t manage the maintenance and reliability of your plant equipment if you don’t have a good asset management program. Whether it’s numerous pressure vessels or hundreds of electrical breakers and starters, you must have a system that tracks the exact location and complete inspection, testing and predictive/preventive maintenance history of each asset. And it must be a system that allows easy updating and communicates with your Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
We use “Asset Could” by Wasp, an asset management system used by many Fortune 500 companies. With Asset Cloud, we (1) find the asset, (2) fill out a cloud based data form on our cell phone or tablet, (3) upload a photo of the asset and nameplate, (4) print out a bar code, (5) attach the bar code to the asset and finally, (6) scan the bar code. Each time we inspect the asset, we scan the bar code and automatically update the asset inventory. When we finish the inspection, we can immediately produce a complete, up to date and accurate list of all items inspected (and just as importantly, what items were not inspected). We can also provide the client with a copy of the asset inventory as an Excel spread sheet that can be imported into their CMMS or help populate the data base for system models such as SKM or Etap.
